Frequently asked questions
Clarity before you start.
What you need to know about lessons, packages, payment and tests.
How many lessons will I need?
That differs for every learner. During the trial lesson we assess vehicle control, traffic awareness, learning pace and confidence. You then receive personal advice without being automatically tied to that package.
How long is a MAHES sinds 1981 lesson?
One lesson unit is 50 minutes. Regular appointments are scheduled as at least two consecutive units of 100 minutes. Only the trial lesson lasts 50 minutes, giving you more effective driving time per regular appointment.
At what age can I start?
In the Netherlands, driving lessons can start at 16.5. The theory test is available from age 16 and the practical test from age 17. Drivers under 18 then use the 2toDrive supervised-driving route.
Is the trial lesson deducted from my package?
Yes. After verification, the paid manual or automatic trial lesson is credited once in full against a subsequent package for the same learner. MAHES sinds 1981 applies the credit to the package invoice.
Do you have male and female instructors?
Yes. MAHES sinds 1981 works with male and female instructors. Tell us your preference when applying and we will accommodate it subject to availability.
Which languages and areas are available?
Lessons are available in Dutch or English. Our service area is Amsterdam and surrounding areas; the exact start point and availability are confirmed in advance.
How does the student offer work?
With valid proof of enrolment, you receive a €75 discount through 30 September 2026 on a complete 30, 40 or 50-lesson package. The trial credit may also be applied. Intensive and Exam Secure packages are excluded.
Does Exam Secure guarantee that I pass?
No. Nobody can honestly guarantee a pass. Exam Secure is financial protection: 50 lessons, the first standard practical test and up to two standard retests are included under the terms. Extra lessons and special tests are excluded.
How does an intensive course work?
After a mandatory assessment, we reserve 3 to 5 lesson slots per week where available. The course price includes the additional scheduling capacity. The stated duration is a target; test readiness, your availability and CBR capacity determine the final test date.
Can I choose manual or automatic?
Yes. Manual offers the broadest vehicle choice. Automatic can feel calmer because there is no clutch or gear shifting. We discuss the best route after your trial lesson.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes. For packages from €549, choose Klarna at checkout. Klarna shows the payment option, amounts and due dates available to you. MAHES sinds 1981 adds no administration fee. Klarna decides eligibility; the practical test is booked after full package payment and once you are test-ready.
What does free retest mean?
With the 30, 40 and 50-lesson MAHES sinds 1981 Secure packages, we cover one standard CBR retest including the training car and support under the offer terms. After an unsuccessful test, you follow the personal retest plan and purchase at least 6 additional 50-minute lessons. Special tests and surcharges are excluded.
When can I start theory?
You do not need a theory certificate to start driving lessons. Theory and practice can run together. A valid theory certificate is required before the practical test.
Will I be picked up at home?
Pick-up and drop-off are agreed in advance within the service area and available route planning, so the start and end point are clear before confirmation.
